This past Wednesday the kids and I headed out around 5:30 a.m. In our house 5:30 is considered pretty normal. At this time the animals are waking up, the birds are starting to chirp, the tractors are warming up…it’s a nice calm before the work storm.
I would much rather be up early in the morning and outside working, than being up late at night still working. Call me a grandma…but my whole internal clock is set to early rising, and by NO means am I a night owl!
On this particular morning Bryce and I were fixing and adding ear tags to cows who have lost their tags or needed to be re-marked. Ear tags are so important to a dairyman because this is how we keep track of them, it’s their name, their social security number, the only way we know who is who. Their number is entered into a program on our computer that helps keep track of how much milk they are producing, what day they had their baby, when they were bred and so on and so forth…
You can see how important it is to make sure cows have their tags in!
Bryce is no stranger to early rising, he was actually upset it wasn’t still dark outside because he wanted to use his flashlight hat.
Since it’s summer the sun is rising at about 5-5:30 and it’s so pretty to see a sunrise!
The cows are up and eating their breakfast before they go into the barn to get milked.
Jarret was checking all the cow’s eyeballs for pink eye. Since it’s hot, dry and dusty at times, your pink eye rate is higher.
This picture was taken at about 6:00 a.m., how pretty…what a way to start the morning!
Bryce was helping me cross off numbers for ear tags I needed to make.
See those two birds!? I happened to catch them without knowing, and they reminded me of the birds on my wrist.
I love my tattoo…
Early mornings in the summer are so nice…the cows enjoy it too.
