There is one thing I do not consider myself…
A home decorator. I can leave a room the way it’s decorated, arranged, pictures for years before I have the urge to change it up. I never get the bug to redecorate! I think part of it is, I don’t want to spend the money on decorating?! Well bottom line-I spruced it up a bit!
Majority of the “stuff” I already had. The only things I purchased were a few frames, everything else I had in my non-house decorating inventory. Ha!
My first example is this…
A few months back before school started I wanted to put a coat rack up to help organize backpacks, lunch pales etc. What I really liked about this one is it has this little ledge up top to sit things on!
To decorate it, I sat this picture that reads “Follow your Heart”, a candle and my cross made out of palm frond from Palm Sunday.
The whole area is cute, but I thought it was a little plain, it could use some help!
So I added one of my favorite pictures of Jer and Bryce from a wedding we went to, a letter “M” for our last name and I leaned them all up against the wall and each other.
The frame I picked up from Target’s clearance area and the letter M I’ve had for years. The letter was actually white and I painted it this matte black with some canvas paints we had for the kids.
Again…I do not fancy myself a decorator, but I loved the way my entry way turned out!
My Mehaffey Boys…
The wall adjacent to the “backpack wall” is another entry way wall, it’s not as wide but tall and narrow. The frames I hung here I found at Michael’s in the clearance section as well, I hate to pay full price for a frame!
These pictures were obviously taken years ago, but I never got around to buying frames or hanging them for that matter. Now I finally did and I love it, anytime someone walks in the door you see our family picture.
I posted this picture in my fall book haul, but I thought it would be nice to post it again because I decorated this table the same day I did the others.
The “Harvest” sign I’ve had for years, I think I got it at Macy’s. The turkey my mom gave me, probably from Michael’s, and the word art in the picture frame I downloaded online, printed and placed in the frame. I also placed a Bath and Body Works 3-wick candle in the scent, sweet cinnamon pumpkin, behind the harvest sign to help it light up and make the living room smell good.
Here’s a close-up of the fall themed word art, I love it because it has everything in there when you think of fall!
Go here to download a copy for yourself!
Last but not least, I’ve shared this before too, but I love this “autumn” themed basket to place fall, harvest, autumn and Halloween themed books.
Another thing from Michael’s!
I hope you enjoyed seeing some picture of me sprucing the house up a bit for fall and it also helps when you host a party at your house, it makes you get things done you don’t always do.
Have a great Friday and the beginning of the weekend,
