Morning Friends! Man-oh-man was yesterday a crazy day, yesterday I posted on my instagram story about falling while on the trail and scraping my legs up, but I didn’t mention the minor sprained ankle!
Also Naomi had 2 nose bleeds and Maddie got a splinter in the bottom of her foot…all while we were back home. It was Freaky Friday, but on a Thursday!
Alright, let’s get on with this post. If you have followed me for any length of time on this blog, then you know I love to be outdoors and to be active with the kids! One of my favorite things to do with the kids is to go for morning walks. The summer time is when we can do this most often because no school, but when school is back in session then it’s mostly evening walks or on the weekends.
One thing I was really sad about when the farm sold and we moved was not being able to walk out our back door and go for a long nature walk with the kids right on the property. Now that I’m getting more in the groove of finding walking paths and trails, we tried two new ones this week!
What has helped is I’ve downloaded the app called AllTrails, it uses your location and tells you what type of trails are around you.
Now that the kids are older and I can take them on these trails and not worry if they are going to be too long is great! I love bonding with them, spending quality time with them in nature and pushing & being encouraging to them that we can do this.

Springfield Conservation Nature Center.
Yesterday we tried walking the “long trail” at the Nature Center. This is the first time I’ve ever been there and it was so nice and peaceful. (Besides falling!)
The kids loved it and it was very well maintained with a lot of different terrain to walk over.
We did the “long trail” in orange!
This was at the starting of the trail and of course Maddie needed to bring a little stuffed animal friend.
All along the trail they had benches where you could sit and take a break.
The kids loved when we came across this foot bridge.
Then we went across a bigger bridge that went across a water way.
Then right after that, I ate it hard when trying to keep with the girls.
This is what happened. The girls ran ahead just a little, I stopped to take a picture of the water way and after was racing Bryce to catch up. (Not very far.) While running my right ankle rolled from hitting a tree root that grew out of the ground a little and with forward momentum went crashing down hard. The outer left leg & inner right knee got a nice road-rash and my ankle has a minor sprain.
It took me a few minutes and some deep breathing to get back up, find my barrings and keep going. At this point we were about half way thru, the kids were worried if I was ok or if we should go back…
After getting up and moving a little slower, I was fine to finish.
When we got home I iced and elevated for majority of the day and took some ibuprofen for the swelling. This morning my ankle feels better than expected, a little tight but with some more icing & elevating and light duty I will be fine.
Jarret said I’m not young anymore and I need to be more careful trying to keep up with the kids, lol, he was worried about me because he works out of town and can’t be right there if it was worse.
Ok, back onto the trail.
It was fun that the kids had to navigate all this different terraisn just on one trail!
When Jer’s back they want to take their Dad on this trail.
When we got back home I washed up, owww, put ointment on the road-rash and Bryce made lunch, fish sticks & Rice a Roni! Naomi got me a bag full of ice and Maddie got me a pillow and a little towel.
They really were helpful and this is pretty much where I stayed until we had to leave for Maddie’s horseback riding lessons.
Tuesday we checked out Springfield Lakes’s paved trail. The kids really wanted to ride their bikes on a trail.
This day was super humid, so I’m glad it wasn’t too long because the kids were done at the end.
My vehicle can’t fit all 3 bikes so the girls got to bring theirs and Bryce brought his scooter. Partly because we just couldn’t get his bike in the back of the car without having all the seats folded down.
Mad is not that strong of a bike rider yet. She still needs a little help but is doing great since she pretty much just learned how to ride this summer.
We reached the end and turned around and headed back.
Not before the kids took a little break.
Bryce was listening to music on his new neckband headphones Jarret gave him! These were Jer’s hand-me-downs because he got a new pair at work.
Took a little break to check out the water.

I’m not sure if you can see but, right behind those trees are two deer that were grazing.
Morning walks, evening walks or nature walks are some of my favorite ways to spend quality time with my kids. We get to be active, we get outside and we are spending quality time with each other.
